A family adopted a “shy” pup — and couldn’t resist taking home another dog.

“What do you do when you can’t decide between 2 rescue dogs?,” an Alabama animal shelter wrote in a Facebook post. “You adopt one and come back in 2 days to get the other dog. How great is that!”

The heartwarming news came after the family first adopted beloved dog Carrie. She was a puppy when she was found as a stray in the fall.

“Carrie is a little shy at first, but warms up quickly,” 2nd Chance Shelter, located in Boaz, told McClatchy News in a Feb. 24 email.

The other dog, Timber, had been dumped in August 2023. After he waited more than a year for a new owner, the family who adopted Carrie soon returned for him.

“Timber is a goofy, stubborn Husky,” 2nd Chance wrote. “He loves to play with toys and have his belly rubbed.... Timber was definitely a staff favorite! It was bittersweet to see him go. We were all very happy that he found a great home, though.”

The shelter rejoiced in the two dogs being adopted together.

“We are all so happy that nothing bad happened to this sweet girl and boy while they were on their own,” the shelter wrote. “Go enjoy your second chance in life Carrie and Timber. You so deserve it. See babies. Dreams do come true.”

Boaz is a roughly 70-mile drive northeast from Birmingham.
