Crashes leave 3 people dead in east Alabama over the weekend, investigators say

Three people, including two teenagers, died in east Alabama crashes over the weekend, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Two of the crashes involved one vehicle, while a third incident involved a tractor-trailer. Investigators released limited details about each incident in news releases.

Teens hurt, killed in Chambers County crash

The first fatal incident occurred in Chambers County, about an hour from Columbus. A 17-year-old driving a Nissan Altima on Chambers County 32 ran off the road and their car overturned, according to ALEA. The crash, which happened just west of LaFayette at 5:45 p.m. Friday, left a 16-year-old LaFayette resident dead on scene. Investigators said the teenager wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

The driver and an 18-year-old passenger were taken to a medical facility for treatment.

Officials didn’t release the names of those involved.

Man dies in Alabama ATV crash

ALEA reported Sunday morning that a 69-year-old man was killed in a side-by-side ATV incident Saturday evening. Officials said the Lee County crash happened at about 5:20 p.m. on Lee County 361, just west of Valley, leaving Randy G. Looney dead. Looney, a Valley resident, wasn’t wearing a seat belt at the time. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

19-year-old killed in third crash

An early-morning crash Sunday left a third person dead in Russell County, ALEA said. Emma G. Howard, 19, was driving a Jeep Wrangler when she struck the back of a tractor-trailer. Howard, of Huntsville, was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash occurred on U.S. 431 near the 90 mile marker, about 25 miles south of Phenix City, ALEA said.

State troopers still were investigating all three crashes.
