A sinkhole opened under a Georgia road, swallowing part of a truck and trapping it under the pavement, a photo shows.

The sinkhole was one of two that formed after a water main break on Thursday, Nov. 17, according to the Cty of South Fulton.

The break caused the ground to buckle along Orkney Lane in the Loch Lomond area, roughly 10 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta.

“I was out getting my morning walk at 8:30 when I saw water running all through the streets,” David Washington, who lives in the area, told WSB-TV. “There was mud and a smell of sewage. I think I actually heard the truck as it fell.”

The driver wasn’t hurt when the 10-foot-deep hole — with a width of 22 feet — opened up, according to the TV station and details officials shared with McClatchy News in an email.

The City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management, which oversees the water lines, said six homes and two hydrants were impacted before service was restored.

“The road will remain closed indefinitely as the site is investigated and the road is repaired,” South Fulton officials wrote at about 12:30 p.m. in a Twitter post. “Please avoid the area and use alternate routes.”

The city said it has been in touch with Atlanta water officials to determine a timeline for road repairs.
