Circle K planned a 30-cent discount on gas — then Hurricane Idalia stormed through
Circle K is delaying its gas discount day in some states after Hurricane Idalia roiled parts of the Southeast, bringing heavy rain, flooding and damaging winds.
Drivers in most states — excluding Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina — can save up to 30 cents per gallon of fuel Thursday, Aug. 31, when they fill up at participating Circle K stations.
The one-day discount is available from 4-7 p.m. local time, the Charlotte-based convenience chain announced in a news release.
It’s part of the annual Circle K Day event, giving drivers a break at the pump heading into the Labor Day travel weekend. Most locations will also offer discount cards for 10 cents off per gallon of gas to be used for future purchases through Dec. 31, the release said.
However, drivers in southern states will have to wait a bit longer to get in on the deal.
Citing impacts of Hurricane Idalia, the convenience chain pulled the discount event “out of an abundance of caution,” but said it’s working to reschedule for a later date.
McClatchy News reached out to Circle K for comment on Aug. 31 and was awaiting a response.
The national average for a regular gallon of gas reached $3.82 as of Thursday afternoon, according to AAA. That’s one cent cheaper than the week prior.
