We tried Columbus’ best margarita at Sapo’s just in time for Cinco de Mayo
The votes are in, and now that Sapo’s Mexican Cocina and Bar is the clear winner of Columbus’ Best Margarita poll.
Because we take our duty very seriously here at the Ledger-Enquirer, we went to do the hard work of finding out just how good the margs are at this spot.
As a service to the readers, I tried the new pineapple soft-serve margarita, so you guys can know exactly what to order come the celebration of Cinco de Mayo.
The hype holds up
Beyond a frozen margarita, the soft-serve was a surprising twist on what I thought had already been done a hundred ways. Served like you would an ice cream cone, it feels like a perfect patio companion.
What we ordered:
Pineapple soft-serve margarita:
This was like a margarita-flavored ice cream cone, except it comes in its own wine glass and had a little shovel to eat with. It had a sweet sugar rim and was dangerously easy to drink. At $11.99, it was more of a splurge than it was your Taco Tuesday basic, but they had others we could choose.
Texas Gold Margarita
Mike went a little more traditional. The Texas Gold has fresh juice and Reposado tequila, and garnished with a dried orange. It’s a tier above your standard margarita and with a salt rim and a little bit of sunshine, it's a day maker.
Table-side guacamole
Made to order, the fresh guacamole is a crowd-pleaser and tastes as fresh as it smells. With endless chips and two kinds of complimentary salsa, traditional and tomatillo, this could be a. meal in itself.
There’s lot more to enjoy of course, but we were there for the margs, and this was just a nice perk.
If you haven’t tried the winning margs yet, now’s your excuse.
