Severe weather, oppressive heat headed to GA. Here’s when, where & what to expect
Georgia residents should keep an eye on the weather because there could be some patches of severe weather through the middle of the week and as we head into the weekend.
The National Weather Service Peachtree City (NWS) office issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook covering much of north and central Georgia, including Muscogee County, flagging the potential for lightning and locally heavy rainfall.
No severe weather warnings are currently in effect for the region, but that could change as the week progresses.

Prepare now
For storms:
- Charge phones and portable batteries before Wednesday
- Know your shelter plan if you’re outdoors during afternoon/evening hours
- Avoid open fields, tall trees, and water during active lightning
- If driving in heavy rain: turn around because flooded roads are the leading cause of storm-related deaths in Georgia
- Download the NWS app or enable Wireless Emergency Alerts on your phone
For heat:
- Stay hydrated
- Limit outdoor activity between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Never leave children, pets, or anyone with limited mobility in a parked car
- Know the signs of heat exhaustion
- Keep a car emergency kit with water in case of breakdown
- If you lose power, identify your nearest cooling center in advance
