Columbus homeless at risk with cold weather approaching
Temperatures this weekend in Columbus are expected to dip down into the teens, with wind chills in the single digits, according to the National Weather Service. These freezing temperatures put the homeless people in the Columbus area at risk of hypothermia and possibly death.
Thankfully, there are two places in the city they can go to seek shelter from the frigid cold.
From Thursday to Tuesday at 6 p.m. to 8 a.m., Valley Rescue Mission, at 2903 2nd Ave., will open its doors to the homeless. They are asking anyone willing to help for donations of coffee, blankets and warm breakfast foods.
Safehouse Ministries, at 2101 Hamilton Road, will open on at 7 a.m. Thursday and remain open until 2 p.m. Monday, with a possibility of an extension, according to their Facebook page. If you would like to help, they are asking for donations of coffee, toilet paper, blankets, sheets, towels, creamer and sugar.
