UPDATE: Columbus under tornado watch until 9 p.m. with 2-4 inches of rain expected

Columbus and the surrounding area could have to deal with flooding Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service’s Peachtree City office.

According to meteorologists, Columbus could get 2-4 inches of rain over the next two days, with 1-3 inches expected Tuesday and another 1-2 inches possible Wednesday.

The Columbus area was placed under a tornado watch effective until 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to the NWS Atlanta Twitter page.

Rain will begin early Tuesday afternoon and continue through Wednesday afternoon with some possible lingering showers, according to the NWS. The storm front is moving from west/northwest and moving east/southeast.

If you live in a flood-prone area, the NWS suggests keeping materials such as sandbags, plywood, plastic sheeting, plastic garbage bags on hand and contacting your county emergency management agency on how to protect your house.
