Tuesday’s rainfall broke daily records in Macon, Columbus and Atlanta, reported the National Weather Service.

Of the three, Columbus saw the most rainfall, coming in at 1.73 inches for the day.

Macon squashed its daily rainfall record with 1.42 inches of rain on Tuesday.

Atlanta’s 1.58 inches broke its old record of 1.5 inches set in 1948.

The rainfall came just in time, as the U.S. Drought Monitor recently reported moderate drought conditions in northern parts of Georgia and abnormally dry conditions locally.

This week’s cold front that initiated in Canada reduced temperatures by 20 degrees front, marking the end of the unusually mild weather Middle GA has seen this month. In fact, the cold snap is the coldest Middle GA has seen since April.

Overnight lows are expected to drop into the 30s Friday and Saturday night. Temperatures could even reach freezing levels in some parts of the state.
