So how much snow did we get this week — and how does that amount rank in Columbus history?

Tuesday’s winter storm brought record snowfall across the state, including Muscogee County.

Columbus received a record daily snowfall of 3 inches for the date of Jan. 21, according to the National Weather Service. This was the most amount of snow the city has seen since 2009.

This winter storm ranks as the 12th biggest snowfall event total Columbus has on record, according to the NWS.

The biggest snowfall event in Columbus occurred from Feb. 9 through Feb. 10, 1973. That storm brought a record 14 inches of snow.

That event broke the previous snowfall record when a Feb. 26, 1914, storm dropped 9 inches of snow on Columbus.

While snow has begun melting in Columbus, lingering cold temperatures caused ice to continue being a concern in areas. However, temperatures are expected to rise going into a sunny weekend, according to AccuWeather.
