Columbus under flood watch from storm that caused 2 deaths as well as power outages

A storm system made its way through Alabama and Georgia bringing thunderstorms to Columbus and surrounding areas.

The storm resulted in the deaths of a father and son at a Muscogee County golf course and caused power outages in Columbus.

Columbus received 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 inches of rain in the area from the storm, according to National Weather Service forecaster Brett Albright. He said the area is expected to receive less than a quarter inch of additional rainfall from the system.

Columbus is under a flood watch until 8 p.m., according to Albright. The Chattahoochee River is hovering just below minor flood stage at just under 27 feet, Albright said.

Albright said the river is expected to stay steady around the 25-26 feet range until midnight Wednesday, when the river is expected to dip below 25 feet.
