Hail, tornado ‘can’t be ruled out’ in Columbus as slow-moving storms hit
Columbus has seen significant rain in recent days, but weather may get worse Monday, according to forecasts.
The National Weather Service has warned that thunderstorms Monday afternoon and evening will leave Muscogee County with a “marginal risk” for hail, damaging winds and tornadoes.
“A couple of isolated strong to severe thunderstorms are possible in the region today,” the NWS said in a hazardous weather outlook issued Monday. “The primary hazards with any stronger storms should be damaging winds gusts, but a brief tornado or a burst of hail can’t be ruled out.”
The NWS also said a slow-moving storm is going to increase rainfall. Columbus likely will see half an inch to an inch of rain by the end of the day Tuesday.
