Two federal judges Friday ordered all records of Alabama state grants paid to students attending private segregated schools opened for inspection by the U.S. Justice Department.


“A kind of one room school house.” That’s the way Mrs. Bess Morgan of Phenix City describes her mother’s future status. Mrs. Julia Nell Liles, 53, left last month for Brazil where as a “short term” Presbyterian missionary, she will spend three years teaching children of two missionary families.

Youth Corps

The U.S. Dept. of Labor Friday announced the approval of a $212,720 grant for a Neighborhood Youth Corps program. Approximately 175 students from the counties of Chattahoochee, Clay, Muscogee, Quitman, Randolph and Stewart will take part in the program.
