Viet Nam Needs
The Army’s replacement needs in Viet Nam have reached a new high, defense sources said Thursday. More than 20,000 fresh troops were shipped overseas this month to relieve combat.
Surveyor Crash
The $65 million Surveyor 2 moon explorer crashed into the lunar surface at a speed of 5,800 miles per hour Thursday night, Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientists reported. The crippled spacecraft had been doomed when one of its three steering engines failed.
Civil Rights
A Negro attorney Thursday asked federal court to hold Gov. George C. Wallace in contempt for promoting legislative passage of a law nullifying federal school desegregation guidelines in Alabama. Fred Gray of Tuskegee filed a suit with U.S. District Court Judge Frank M. Johnson, Jr.
