Bookies in Atlanta have established former Gov. Ellis Arnall as a 3,000 to 5,000 vote favorite over Lester Maddox in Wednesday’s runoff election for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
Religion
A Baptist minister fired Sunday by his congregation because of his open-door policy towards admitting Negroes, said today he could not have done otherwise. “I did it out of conviction and I’d do it again,” said the Rev. Dr. Thomas J. Holmes referring to his welcome last June of two Negro students from nearby Mercer University. The church is on the Mercer campus.

The reward offered for information as to the whereabouts of Mrs. Daisy Lewis, wife of West Point high school principal and football coach Carlton Lewis, has been raised to $325.
