Governor’s Race

Veteran political observers rated the contest a toss-up and said victory probably would be determined by whether the larger turnout came in city or rural areas.
Sports
It started out as a night for Eddie Mathews, but would end up as a night for Willie Mays. Mathews, the aging darling of Atlanta fans, was feted prior to Tuesday night’s game between the Braves and the San Francisco Giants. But Mays stole the show. Wondrous Willie drove in four runs with a homer and a single to power the Giants to a 6-3 victory.
