Butts Case

The Supreme Court today agreed to review a libel award made to former University of Georgia athletic director Wallace Butts. A Post article alleged that Butts conspired with University of Alabama football coach Paul (Bear) Bryant to rig the 1962 Georgia-Alabama game. Alabama won 35-0.

Tickets for commentator-editorialist Paul Harvey’s talk have been available at several locations in Columbus and surrounding towns, program chairman Frank Venable said today.

Fair Opens

The ferris wheel was nothing but a silver skeleton at the fairgrounds this morning. Tonight it will be covered with yellow neon lights and surrounded by milling people of every age. The Chattahoochee Valley Fair opened today with everything from a tiny train for toddlers to a new thrill ride, the Sky Diver.
