Governor’s Race

Republican Howard (Bo) Callaway charged Tuesday night that his Democratic opponent in the governor’s race, Lester G. Maddox, has made secret deals and irresponsible promises. Maddox countered that Callaway had panicked and his camp in desperation was making “deliberate false statements.”

A college quarterback who signed with the Dallas Cowboys as a free agent and started the season as a second team halfback is the leading scorer in the National Football League. Dan Reeves, a second-year man from South Carolina, is one of the big reasons the Dallas Cowboys are unbeaten this season.

Newspaper Goes ‘Bo’

The Americus Times-Recorder endorsed Rep. Howard Callaway, the Republican candidate for governor, in an editorial in Tuesday’s edition. The newspaper called Callaway Georgia’s best chance for a second political party.
