Downtown Mall

Development of a huge shopping mall in the center of downtown Columbus reportedly will start soon. W.C. Bradley Co. interests plan the complex, which will extend from Broadway to Front Avenue, and from 12th Street north through the building formerly occupied by Sears Roebuck.

College in PC?

Phenix City may soon be the site of a junior college, Mayor Lee Lott today told the city commission. Lott said he discussed the matter with State Senator Jimmy Clark, who said Phenix City was in a “real fine position to get a college.”

Bo: Jobs at Stake

Republican gubernatorial candidate Howard (Bo) Callaway said Monday night that thousands of new jobs, ride on the outcome of his race with Democrat Lester Maddox. The candidate said a Maddox victory would keep the payrolls, investments and plants out of Georgia.
