A federal tribunal ruled today that the Georgia General Assembly cannot elect a governor, but failed to offer a solution for the state’s current muddle.

Medal of Honor

A Fort Benning lieutenant who led his squad of lst Air Cavalrymen against an attacking battalion of North Vietnamese soldiers and singlehandedly destroyed an enemy machinegun position has been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Lt. Walter J. Marm Jr., now an instructor at the Ranger Training Center at Dahlonega, Ga., was a platoon leader in Company A, lst Battalion, 7th Cavalry when that unit fought one of the bloodiest battles of the Viet Nam war in the Ia Drang Valley.

Drugs Case

Two Fort Benning soldiers today were bound to Superior Court under bonds of $750 each after pleading guilty in Recorder’s Court to possessing marijuana cigarettes. Columbus policeman J.C. Green said “I saw them in the car smoking with all the windows rolled up. I thought the car might have been stolen.”
