Federal court judges begin hearings Wednesday on suits and motions attacking Alabama’s school desegregation anti-guidelines. The Alabama Legislature enacted the law, at the urging of Gov. George Wallace, declaring guidelines issued by the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare null and void in the state.

NEA Rebels

Georgia is one of only eight states that have not complied with the merger mandate of the National Education Association, according to NEA headquarters in Washington, D.C. The eight still have both white and Negro affiliates of the NEA.

Business

First National Bank of Columbus officials are considering establishment of a full-service branch at Fort Benning.
