Mideast War

Agreement as reported reached today in private talks for a simple Security Council cease-fire resolution to end the resurgent fighting between Israel and Syria. The council met at 12:29 p.m. EDT to act on the agreements.

Medicare

Medicare procedures, almost a year old now, seem to be running smoothly in Columbus’s and Phenix City’s three hospitals in spite of the fears and frustrations which surrounded the mammoth program before it began. Joe Mitchell, administrator of The Medical Center, may have summed up the situation at all three area hospitals when he said: “There was more fear of the program before it began that there was real trouble with it after it was in effect.”

Wallace Veto

Gov. Lurleen Wallace Thursday vetoed the proposed grant of nearly $400,000 by the federal Office of Economic Opportunity to a black (soil) belt Negro farms cooperative. In a noontime interview at an Alabama Farm Bureau meeting, Mrs. Wallace had refused to comment on the grant.
