Pilot Safe

The pilot of a Navy jet fighter, whose parents live here, ejected safely Friday from his crippled plane moments before it plunged into the Gulf of Mexico at Cross City, Fla. Lt. Benny Hassell, 28, son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Hassell, 1318-A Forest Ave., was bobbing in his rubber raft when Coast Guard and Air Force helicopters arrived.

Catholic priests will join Protestant ministers in a series of interfaith services starting June 18 among five downtown churches. The Rev. Dr. G. Othell Hand, pastor of First Baptist Church and series chairman, said Friday it is the first time Catholics have joined in the annual Sunday night summer series which started several years ago and probably “the first time in Georgia” that Catholics have participated in a series of ecumenical services.

Camp Columbus

“Camp Columbus” in South Vietnam is in desperate need of clothing and household goods, Mayor B. Ed Johnson said, making an appeal for a local civic club to undertake as a project the collection of such materials. “Camp Columbus” is a refugee camp near Phu Loi, South Vietnam.
