Fifty years ago today, June 26, 1967

Duke Due

Film actor-producer John Wayne and a party of nine are due in Columbus late Wednesday afternoon for an indefinite stay in preparation for filming a motion picture in the Fort Benning area, the Fort Benning Public Information Office reported today. The film will be based on the novel written by Robin Moore regarding the Army’s Special Forces, and has the same title — “The Green Berets.”

Bond Issue

The college vote could be the deciding factor in Wednesday’s bond referendum on two issues totaling $5.2 million. Several thousand college students are home for the summer, and a high percentage of them vote. “They are the progressive element in the community,” said one veterans political observer, who predicted today the students will vote 10 to one in favor of the two issues on the ballot.

Dance Graduation

The second class of the Kuntry Kuzzins Square Dance Club will hold its graduation dance at 7:30 tonight at the Central High School gym. The club is sponsored by the Phenix City Parks and Recreation Dept.
