Fifty years ago today, July 15, 1967

State GOP

Mrs. A. Edwin Smith of Columbus will head Georgia’s delegation to the 15th annual Republican Women’s Conference in Little Rock Sept. 27-30. Mrs. Smith, 801 Peachtree Dr., is state Republican national committeewoman. Delegates to the gathering, one of four such regional affairs being held this fall, will be the guests of Arkansas Gov. and Mrs. Winthrop I. Rockefeller for a tea and tour.

Drug Case

Narcotics possession charges were made against a Fort Benning soldier and his wife Friday night after arresting officers reported they found a small package of marijuana in the couple’s car.

Religion

Jehovah’s Witnesses will hold a district convention kickoff meeting at 7 o’clock tonight at Carpenter’s Hall, 4 East Ninth St. Jack B. Ryals of McRae, Ga., is in Columbus to act as manager for the religious assembly slated Aug. 10-14.
