Rail Strike
A coast-to-coast strike virtually shut down the nation’s railroads today and put a stranglehold on the country’s war effort and economy. Congress raced to pass emergency legislation to get the trains rolling again.
Business
The Trust Company of Columbus has applied to the State Department of Banks and Banking for authorization to expand its business to include commercial banking. The application was filed by Frank G. Lumpkin Jr., president of the company.
Command Change
Maj. Gen. John W. Wright Jr., new commanding general of Fort Benning and Infantry School commandant, was greeted with an honors ceremony at 8:30 a.m. today as he officially assumed his new command.
