Public Safety
“I think we have imposed on the city manager long enough,” City Commissioner Jesse Binns said Monday in calling for a person to be appointed to the position of Safety Director which has stood vacant since 1955. Since that time the city manager has acted as a director to supervise the police and fire departments.
Stadium Seats
Phenix City Commission today authorized City Attorney Don Phillips to aid recreation director Gene Oswalt in getting replacements for the municipal stadium seats. Oswalt told the commission that the company which installed the seats had guaranteed them against fading or other damage by weather conditions for seven years. Since installation, Oswalt said the seats have faded from the sun and that some of them have cracked.
Education
Central High School in Phenix City has a new principal, a Columbus native with 20 years of experience in Phenix City schools. Joe R. Hair began work Monday, according to Walter J. Riddle, superintendent of Phenix City schools.
