Gov. Lester Maddox said today he would like to see establishment of a statewide system of private non-sectarian schools in Georgia as a method of skirting desegregation edicts of the federal government. The governor said he would like to see at least 100 private, segregated schools opened in the state. He said state tuition grants should be made available if legally permissible.
Nazi Leader Killed
George Lincoln Rockwell, head of the American Nazi party was shot and killed today by a sniper, Arlington police said. Police said Rockwell was in a parking lot across the street from the Nazi party headquarters in this Washington suburb when he was shot.
‘Green Berets’
Filming of “The Green Berets” at Fort Benning is almost on schedule as the project enters its third week, according to producer-director and star John Wayne, despite recent rainy weather. In fact, artificial foul weather has been necessary for part of this week’s shooting.
