Football Death
A 16-year-old Carver High School sophomore, Ernest Brown Jr., died early today at The Medical Center, 10 days after he was injured during football practice. Coach Robert Sanders of Carver High said that Brown’s neck was broken when he collided with another player during scrimmage on Aug. 22. “It was a freak accident,” said Sanders. “No one was at fault. There was no negligence.”
McCullers Critical
Carson McCullers, Columbus-born author of “The Member of the Wedding,” and “Ballad of the Sad Cafe” and many other works, is in Nyack, N.Y., Hospital in critical condition, it was disclosed today. A hospital spokesman said Mrs. McCullers was brought to the hospital August 15, but declined to give further details.
Mrs. Shaw Dies
Mrs. William Henry Shaw, wife of the superintendent of education for the Muscogee County School District, died at 11:15 a.m. today at her home, 2870 Cromwell Drive. She had been ill for the past two years.
