Lester Maddox is doing an average or better than average job as Georgia’s governor, say 62.6 percent of the readers who answered “Your Opinion Counts” this week. Sixty-four percent of those responding favored stepped-up bombing in North Vietnam, even at the point of risking trouble with Red China.

Fireworks

The legislature, after approving an amendment by Gov. Lurleen Wallace, passed a measure Thursday that bans all explosive fireworks in the state except at managed displays. The bill will ban all fireworks except sparklers, dip sticks and toy pistol caps.

Religion

Steve Sloan former star quarterback of the 1965 National Champion University of Alabama football team, is featured in a documentary film on collegiate morality to be shown in Phenix City. Sloan, now a quarterback with the Atlanta Falcons will appear in “Lost in the Crowd” to be shown Sunday night at 8 o’clock at Summerville Baptist Church.
