Govs. Lester Maddox of Georgia and Paul Johnson of Mississippi today defeated an attempt to put the Southern Governors Conference on record in support of a regional institute to improve higher education for Negroes. A conference rule requires unanimous approval.
Pension Plan
A study of the county’s pension plan which has been turned over to the county has revealed a future “unfunded liability” of $1,676,678. A representative of the accounting firm of West, Favors, Hempstead and Bundrick appeared in Tuesday’s Muscogee County Commission meeting prepared, he said, to answer questions on the report.
‘Hawk’ Reagan
Gov. Ronald Reagan is getting ready for his first nationwide political tour as a full-fledged hawk on Vietnam and closer than ever to campaigning actively for the Republican presidential nomination. “I don’t think the full technological power of the United States is being used,” Reagan told a news conference Tuesday.
