Govs. Lester Maddox of Georgia and Paul Johnson of Mississippi today defeated an attempt to put the Southern Governors Conference on record in support of a regional institute to improve higher education for Negroes. A conference rule requires unanimous approval.
A study of the county’s pension plan which has been turned over to the county has revealed a future “unfunded liability” of $1,676,678.
