Vietnam Casualties

American casualties in the Vietnam War neared the 100,000 mark according to losses announced today. U.S. spokesmen said as of last Saturday 13,365 American servicemen had been killed, 83,443 wounded and 749 listed as missing.

Local Vet Elected

A Columbus member of the Veterans of World War I was elected 5th Region commander at a recent national convention in Indianapolis. John R. Wheless, state adjutant and a member of Gen. Benning Barracks, World War I Veterans, Columbus, was elected to a slate of officers which includes Philip F. O’Brien of Turlock, Calif., as national commander.

Civil Rights

Attorneys for Negro plaintiffs seeking faster integration of Muscogee County schools have taken their case to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals again. The Aug. 15 opinion of U.S. District Judge J. Robert Elliott denying a motion for court-ordered acceleration of school desegregation has been appealed.
