Fifty years ago today, September 25, 1967

Black’s Back

Wearing a big smile, irrepressible Charlie Black returned to Columbus early today from his fourth tour of duty covering the war in Vietnam for The Ledger-Enquirer. “What are all of you guys doing up at this time of the day?” were Black’s first words to his reception committee, which included his wife and two young daughters and a number of newspaper executives.

Fund Drive

Fred Cook, Jr., fund drive chairman for the West Point United Fund, has announced division majors who will conduct the 1967-68 campaign to raise $29,335 in support of 11 agencies. Those serving this year are Cap Duncan, Billy Dillard, John Mackool, Maurice Duttera, Nat Davidson, Henderson Huguley III, Joe Wickham and Louis Kirby Jr.

Crooner Call

Bringing their own audience, about 25 prospective barbershop harmony singers met Sunday afternoon to sing and hold an organizational meeting for a local chapter of Society for Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America.
