Card Burning
The Supreme Court announced today it will decide whether the 1965 federal law that forbids the burning of draft cards is constitutional. The Justice Department had asked the court to hear the case after the U.S. Circuit Court in Boston ruled unanimously that the 1965 law abridges free speech and is therefore unconstitutional.
1967 Fair
The Chattahoochee Valley Fairgrounds began to come alive today around noon as barkers and hawkers, blaring music and flashing, whirling ride lights started for the first day of the fair’s 50th anniversary run.
Auburn Astronaut
Auburn University graduate Thomas K. Mattingly has his goals set “high in the sky.” In fact, his ultimate goal is even higher than the sky, for it includes flights to the moon. The 31-year-old Navy lieutenant commander was selected by NASA in the latest group of astronaut trainees.
