The off-and-on project to extend limited access on the Columbus-Manchester Expressway has hit a new but familiar snag: a proposed service station.

Commissioners moved swiftly Tuesday to get an appraisal on a vacant lot fronting the Expressway in hopes the Highway Department will condemn and purchase the land before owners begin construction.

Muscogee County Commission Tuesday pledged its backing for the Columbus-Phenix City Transportation Study, and called for a resolution that would protect rights-of-way for future streets in the county.

Bibb County has moved ahead of Muscogee in a bid to replace faltering Richmond County as Georgia’s fourth-largest retail sales center, the state Chamber of Commerce reported today.
