Police Training

The last in a six-part series of training seminars for Phenix City and Russell County law officers will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The session will be on the problems of being a policeman, such as constantly being in an “emotional climate,” being asked to take bribes and being expected to be “perfect.”

Strike Averted

An impending student strike involving some 100 students of Cusseta Industrial School here has apparently been averted. The students, according to Patricia Thornton, a senior at the school, feel that they have been deprived because the school has no gymnasium — although the white school here does, better equipment is needed — especially science equipment —, the restrooms are said to be in bad shape, and textbooks, according to students, are out of date and there are not enough to go around.

Sports

There were new leaders in the men’s doubles and women’s singles after yesterday’s action in the Royal Crown Invitational bowling tournament at Victory Lanes. Doyle Wiggings and Jimmy Phillips of Americus fired a 1,245 total to move out front in the men’s doubles, one pin better than Joe Addison and Charley Dodd of Decatur who hold the scratch lead with 1,193. Betty Callier and Vernell Helms of Dublin took the women’s singles lead with 649 each.
