Binns Testifies
City Commissioner Jesse Binns led today’s procession of witnesses to testify before the Muscogee County Grand Jury in its second day of hearing testimony in an investigation of charges of “payoff protection” by bar operators to Columbus police and a further probe of a police department investigation of ex-policemen charged with burglary.
Girl Scout Honored
A Ladonia Girl Scout will receive special recognition from Scout headquarters for volunteering to aid an Alabama State Trooper during a wreck last week. Mrs. Joann Barbee, a troop leader, said Debbie Ann Toole, 10 years old, was wrapping Christmas presents in her home one night when the accident occurred near her home. Mrs. Barbee said Debbie went to see what had happened, and that the trooper working the wreck asked a crowd of onlookers for a volunteer. Debbie was the only volunteer, Mrs. Barbee said.
