Fifty years ago today, January 16, 1968

Faculty Integration

A plan for faculty desegregation in Muscogee County schools, with assignment “wherever possible” of at least two teachers of the minority race to every school, was approved Monday. The policy was adopted formally by the Muscogee County Board of Education five months after U.S. District Judge J. Robert Elliott directed the board to move toward the school desegregation standards established by the federal court.

God Sued

God — and his agents in Lake Worth, Fla. — are being sued for $25,000 by an accident victim whose injuries were attributed by a jury to an act of God. Defendants include 32 Lake Worth churches and synagogues lumped by the plaintiff under the term “God and Co.”

Traffic Plan

Mapped plans to alleviate the traffic congestion on Macon Road were presented to Columbus City Commission Monday, after which an ordinance was requested which would require minimum rights-of-way on all of the city’s collector and major streets.
