Abortion Law

Impassioned appeals over a new bill to liberalize Georgia’s abortion laws were presented by nearly 30 persons during a lengthy hearing before a Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday.

Support for and opposition to the proposed bill were about equal in the standing-room-only crowd.

Union Protest

Martin Theaters of Georgia has been ordered to stop discouraging its employees from joining a union, a wire service said today.

This morning a company spokesman said, “It’s news to me. I wasn’t aware that we were having any labor problems,” when asked about the order from the National Labor Relations Board in Washington.

Long-range hopes of a riverfront industrial park in Muscogee County are being kept alive by a small group within the Columbus Chamber of Commerce.

A subcommittee of the Chamber’s Economic Development Committee has been asked to cope up with a recommendation regarding a levee feasibility study.
