Consolidation

A proposed constitutional amendment to authorize creation of a charter commission for consolidation of Columbus and Muscogee County governments was introduced today in the Georgia House of Representatives.

New PC Center?

Reports that a Grant City shopping center will be built on the bypass in Phenix City were still unconfirmed today. Sources reportedly said the Nelson Co. Inc. of Nashville, Tenn., had taken options on property at the intersection of U.S. 80 and the bypass. However, no such company could be found in Nashville, Chattanooga, or Atlanta listings, according to telephone company information.

Police Case

Trial of former Columbus Police Department Detective Edward Kvietkus halted swiftly today, with Kvietkus entering a plea which poses a 1-to-20 year prison sentence as a possibility. Kvietkus pleaded nolo contendere (no contest) to one of two counters of receiving stolen property.
