Disaster Declared

President Johnson today declared Georgia a major disaster area as a result of flooding caused by torrential rains. This will make affected areas of the state eligible for federal aid.

State Revamp

Georgia House Speaker George T. Smith said Sunday that state may stand a good chance of winning its federal court fight against a move aimed at forcing reapportionment of the General Assembly.

Cav Monument

Sec. of State Ben Fortson and Georgia Art Commission Chairman Lamar Dodd are scheduled to meet at the Capitol Tuesday to discuss plans for erection of a monument in Columbus in honor of Fort Benning’s famed lst Cavalry Division.
