The National Academy of Sciences today recommended six possible sites for a $375 million atom smasher, the world’s most powerful, which the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) hopes to build in the next six to eight years. Several Valley sites had been in the original competition for location of the atom smasher. Eufaula, Ala. was one of the prime contenders some months ago.
