RC Chairman Dies
Edward L. Norton, chairman of the board of directors of Royal Crown Cola Co. died of a heart attack at 2 a.m. today. The Birmingham financier succeeded T. Hiram Stanley of Columbus as chairman of the board of the soft drink company in 1961.
Desegregation
An attorney today urged the Russell County Board of Education “not to sign” compliance with the U.S. Office of Education guidelines on school desegregation.The six-member board, after some 25 minutes of discussion with attorney Roy Greene and persons he represented, voted to meet again at 1:30 p.m. today and debate the question.
Patterson
Former Gov. John Patterson says that the present administration has lost complete control in the battle to solve the racial problem and to preserve constitutional government. Campaigning in Birmingham Monday, Patterson said the Wallace administration “in fact has contributed far more to the enemies of the constitutional government than to the defenders.”
