Draft Probe

The former commanding officer of the Army induction center in Atlanta has denied making a charge that 74 of 88 would-be draftees from Muscogee County in a recent pre-induction examination shipment turned up with doctors’ statements certifying that they had medical defects. Maj. Claude T. Tolbart’s denial came Thursday afternoon as a Selective Service investigation began into reports that large numbers of Muscogee youths are attempting to evade the draft through use of medical statements from physicians.

Post Eyed for Third

There’s a good chance that the Army will move the headquarters of the 3rd U.S. Army to Fort Benning. Third Army is presently headquartered at Fort McPherson, Atlanta.

Britain’s new Labor government is preparing for new Viet Nam peace moves aimed at negotiated settlement of the conflict in Southeast Asia. This is one of the key elements of the government’s policy statement outlined by Queen Elizabeth II in her speech from the throne at the opening of Parliament Thursday.
