Fifty years ago today, April 25, 1966

JFK-Viet Nam

Sen. Wayne Morse, D-Ore., said today President John F. Kennedy told him about 10 days before Kennedy was assassinated that he had ordered an intense review of U.S. policy in South Viet Nam.

“I don’t think we’d be sacrificing the lives of increasing numbers of American boys today,” Morse said.

Politics

Stephen Pace Jr. of Americus today formally renounced the Democratic Party and applied for acceptance as a Republican. He said he will actively seek the GOP nomination for Congress if Rep. Bo Callaway runs for governor.

Boat Accidents

Two men drowned Saturday in separate area boating mishaps.

One died when he fell from a raft in swift water and struck his head on a dam in the Chattahoochee, the other when he jumped from his boat after being frightened by high waves on Lake Eufaula.
