Memorial Day Tribute to Benning

Lt. Col. Earl F. Holton, speaking on behalf of the officers and men of Fort Benning, named for Gen. Benning, saluted the memory of the soldier whose Civil War exploits earned him the sobriquet “the Rock of the Confederacy”, during the centennial observance of Confederate Memorial Day in Linwood Cemetery.

Religion

A second city-wide Christian Laymen’s Breakfast May 9 will feature a British minister as guest speaker, it was announced today at a meeting of the Columbus Ministerial Alliance.

Man Escapes

A 19-year-old prisoner escaped from Columbus police headquarters Tuesday minutes after conferring with an attorney. Police continued searching for him today.
