Draft

A charge that large numbers of Muscogee County youths have attempted to dodge the draft with physicians’ statements certifying medical defects has been proven false, Georgia’ s Selective Service director said Thursday. Col. Harry O. Smith said a detailed investigation by his office has disclosed that of 410 youths called for pre-induction examinations from the county since Jan. 1, only 55 presented medical-defect statements.

Bogus Bill Case

Secret Service agents and Columbus detectives today pressed their investigation into a giant southeastern counterfeit operation which was reportedly uncovered Thursday in Lee County, Ala. Ironically, it was reported by A.B. Wentz, special agent in charge of the Atlanta office of the U.S. Secret Service, that only one of the bogus bills had turned up in Columbus.

Negro Editor

John T. Gill III, a 19-year-old Negro student at Georgia Tech, was elected editor today of Tech’s weekly newspaper. Gill enrolled at Tech at the age of 16. He skipped his senior year in high school because instructors said they had nothing left to teach him.
