Alabama Polls
Alabamans, including thousands of Negroes voting for the first time, jammed the polls today to decide whether Gov. George Wallace’s wife should be the Democratic nominee for governor. A record vote of 800,000 was expected. Negroes, assured their first franchise by the federal Voting Rights Act, turned out in force.
Bogus Bill Case
Three more arrests overnight and early today further unraveled the mystery of an alleged southeastern counterfeiting operation centering in Columbus and Lee County, Ala. A Fort Benning soldier, Sp4 Philip R. Armel, 417th TC Detachment, whose last known civilian address was Route 1, Berryville, Va., was arrested early today and arraigned before U.S. Commissioner H. Okay Parker.
Cola Suit
A May 26 hearing has been set on a $1 million antitrust suit by the Royal Crown Cola Co. charging eight defendants conspired to exclude it from selling its products at Atlanta Stadium.
