PC’s New Look
Some of downtown Phenix City’s oldest store buildings are slated to be demolished this summer and a local developer plans to reconstruct an entire city block with new stores and off-street parking ready for use by summer 1967.
W. B. Fulford reportedly has purchased all but a fraction of the entire block on 14th Street between Second and Third Avenues from the estate and heirs of I. I. Moses for an unconfirmed price of approximately $62,000.
Mental Health
A big new mental health center, privately operated, is being planned in Columbus. The proposed relocation and expansion of The Bradley Center on the former Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home tract on 20th Street, was disclosed in a request to the Columbus-Muscogee County Planning Commission for a zoning change.
Bo Bid
Georgia Republicans now have more than 80,000 petition signatures required to put the name of GOP Congressman Howard (Bo) Callaway in the Georgia governor’s race, a party spokesman said today. Mike Hudson, executive secretary of the State Republican Central Committee, said, however, the drive to get more names will continue until 100,000 to 110,000 persons have signed.
