Fifty years ago today, May 14, 1966

Relay Station

Three top American firms are seeking permission from the FCC to build a $6 million ground reception-relay station in Talbot County, to handle international communications by satellite. RCA, ITT and Western Union have jointly petitioned FCC for permission to build a station which would serve the entire Southeast.

AU President

Amid the pomp and pageantry aired by a packed house of delegates, Dr. Harry M. Philpott was inaugurated Friday as the 11th president of Auburn University. Dr. Philpot was installed by Gov. George C. Wallace, ex-officio president of the Auburn Board of Trustees.

‘Action’ Here

Television’s “Where the Action Is” program will come live to the Municipal Auditorium beginning at 8 p.m. today. Paul Revere and the Raiders headline the show. Gary Lewis and the Playboys also will perform on stage.
